The PTFS module is one kind of Pulse Ranging Sensor by using uses pulsed laser beams to determine the distance to a target object. These sensors, also are called TOF Ranging Sensors as it operates based on the principle of time-of-flight (TOF), where the sensor emits a short laser pulse and measures the time it takes for the pulse to travel to the target and then back.

The Laser Distance Sensor has a measuring range of 3-400 meters with standard accuracy of ±1m, it uses the 905nm wavelength laser so to make sure it's eye-safe when users are operating the modules. This kind of long range laser distance sensor is suibable for obstacle avoidance of robots such as drones, positioning and monitoring of dynamic targets, industrial control and measuring scenarios etc.
